Sometime my nissan maxima 2002 car give me gear shifting problem, when i run my car for longer period sometime my car gears do not shift to higher gear instead it runs on first gear?

after running for longer period it stays in first gear and does not go in higher gears automatically. when i
switched off for sometime then it works normally, I do not know ,what is the problem and how i should
take care of?

Check the trans fluid to make sure its full and its the proper color. It may need a trans flush. Also make sure the trans cooler and pipes aren't clogged so the components are kept within operating temperature.
