New radio not working?

I just got a 1997 used ford ranger. the previous owner replaced the stock radio and
now it's one that that's skinny and lights up, I'm not sure if the brand, pioneer maybe?
When I connect the radio it will turn on and you can change the stations and
everything but nothing plays. There's no clicking or cracking to indicate speaker
damage its just silent. I was thinking maybe it's a fuse but why would it be a fuse if it
turns on and stuff? It thought about just re-wiring it in case the previous owners just
did it wrong, but i don't want to risk doing more damage. I honestly don't know where to
go to get it looked at nor do I have the money. So any advice will help. thank you!
