Yes. Rebuild the entire engine or not at all.

Low levels of oil caused the piston to make noise and not work . . I was told it's a lot of work many hours to replace one piston... can I get a second opinion.????

If you ran the engine out of oil the entire engine is probably damaged. It is a lot of work to replace one piston and it would be a total waste of money in my opinion. Get all the opinions you want!

You can spend hundreds of dollars replacing one piston (its been done several times) but there's a reason the piston has issues, probably not long until one or more problems presist. It could fix the problem for a week or a year, long story short one day it will blow up. So you may as well bite the bullet and either rebuild the entire thing or the cheaper alternative and just put a used motor in it.
