I have a 2003 Nissan Altima and I hav been having some sputtering issues lately. When I am excelerating it is the worst. I just got don't replacing the Crank shaft position sensor because it had been just cutting out on me. I called Nissan to see if there were any recalls and they had told me that there were 3. (1) ECM needs reprogramming, (2) Engine exhaust, (3) pump needs replaced. They did not tell me what kind of pump when I asked. Are any of these recalls the culprit or do we need to explore other problems?

I'd go basic....Brand NEW battery...clean the corrosion off the 1/0 battery cable as it attaches to ground...this is responsible for the 300 cold cranking amps PLUS the ground to your ignition, fuel pump and ECU which does not like varying voltages and varying amperages...this corrosion crept up on your system with a Blue Weld and spark at the joint of the 1/0 cable lug and the chassis...it's just suffering from marginal ground with a battery who's lifespan is comin' to an end (the new tin/antimony alloy jobs only last five years) after that will start smokin' the alternator~

I have a new battery with no corrosion. And a brand new alternator. I am thinking that it is a result of one of the recall issues

Could be the cat converter. I'm having the same issue. Is the check engine light on with a p0420 code?
