Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car doesn't start after a short stop like at a grocery store. If I wait for 5
minute and do not crank it many times, it starts in 5 minutes. Following are
the symptoms; any idea what the problem could be

Car Type: 2005 Nissan Altima
Engine Type: 2.5S

Symptoms:
Always starts in the morning or after a long stop
Doesn't start when its a short stop 15 - 20 mins
If I stop the car and restart it immediately, it always starts.
Check Engine Light on

Any suggestion on what the problem could be. So that I could replace this.

Key to entire scenario: Check Engine Light On. That means a diagnostic code has been detected and and OBDII scan is called for. otherwise too much guessing. Many parts houses will do a scan at no cost. If you had put 1985 I immediately thought of vapor-lock, classic symptoms. But these days of electric fuel pumps, vapor lock is archaic. Get the fault code(s) and bring them back here

My mistake. It is not the Check engine light that is on but "Service Engine soon" light is on. Could you please help me solve the issue. Any guidance will be super helpful

Mine too the exact same scenarios. Starts always when cold but not 10 to 20 minutes later. Been fighting this for about 6 months now. Got to the point where I don’t turn the car off at the grocery store. Replaced lots of parts like the egr valve ignition coils and spark plugs plus a couple of other parts to no avail. Nissan Altima 2014 S and 2.5 4 cylinder engine. Crazy crazy crazy. Wish I had my honda
