97 ford ranger

I have a 97 ford ranger and when I go to start it the truck
will start but it keeps trying to turn over and it won't stop
unless you take the battery cables off what's wrong

The starter solenoid is stuck or there is an issue with the ignition switch (the electric part of it not the key).
