Dealer Documentation Fees

Asked by Guru3ZQMB Aug 17, 2020 at 05:49 PM about the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am close to making a deal thru Car Gurus with a
dealer in KS.   The Agee’s to price is fine but they
are taking on a $599 doc fee.
It looks like this is over the average doc fees for KS.
This will be a cash deal and the car will be shipped
and registered  in CA not KS.
It this a legitimate fee or just a way to pad the sales
price and pay the dealer’s overhead?

It's probably impossible to avoid the fee, but it does vary from dealer to dealer. If there are no additional fees, and if you were given some concession on the asking price, and the fee represents no more than 2.5%, then in my opinion it is not overly high.

I’m about to buy a truck with no doc fees what so ever. Yes it can be done. Walk away if won’t remove it.
