Passenger airbag sensor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What makes the sensors in the 1999 passenger side stop functioning.  I did some research and found that one Audi merchanic had 3 with the same problem within two months.  They were all 1999.  Not 1998 or 2000, all the same model and make.  Is there a problem the consumer was not made aware of?

It could be corrosion of the terminals -- 2005 Dodge Caravans had a recall on airbag sensors for that problem -- or it could be a poor quality OEM part which is failure-prone. 1998 Ford Contours had this problem as well. I looked around and was unable to find any recall information from Audi so it must be something that was not found to be problematic enough to initiate a recall.
