Why is my 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS idling bad and missing?

Asked by megg22 Sep 30, 2014 at 12:04 PM about the 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The check engine light will flash after it idles for a bit. I have changed the spark plugs and wires, coil pack, transmission filter and fluid has been changed, got a new oxygen sensor and nothing has improved it. Do you have any idea what could be causing this?

If there is a check engine light then there are codes set. Go to AutoZone or someplace like it and get them scanned.

I've had it scanned and they said all of the codes would lead to a bad coil pack so I got a new one and it hasn't helped at all.

ok, there is another thing you can do. The battery, if it is weak can do strange things with your computer. I would suggest a load test on your battery. It has to be fully charged, whoever sells/installs batteries can do this. fully charged, under a load, if it is under about 9 or 9.5 volts it is bad. If it tests bad, replace it of course but then have all the codes cleared from the computer and then see if the light comes back on. Also check your owners manual. I think a flashing check engine light means something other than a steady check engine light.
