My 98 3000gt sl has sporadic idle when the fan turns on. What would cause this?

Not sure what you mean sporadic idle, but you could check your wiring for any cuts or abrasions or loose connections or dirty connectors. Other wise, you may need to check your IAC.

having the same problem with my 97 SL. some people say its the computer, other people say its the idle control sensor. if you look next to where your intake hooks into your manifold, ul see a philips head screw, if you twist it to the right it should bring your idle down a bit.

Sorry, the IAC valve I told you about is the idle air control valve. The phillips head screw you are talking about, is it under the throttle cable? If so, that is the dashspot. It is factory set. If you have moved it by loosening the lock nut on the screw, after you replace the IAC you will need to reset it to factory settings.
