2000 Mitsubishi Montero Endeavor mechanic replaced transmission now it shifts correctly in 4WD, but up-shifts on its own in 2WD?

Asked by rangergirl1977 Nov 26, 2014 at 04:55 AM about the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Base 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A year ago driving the SUV, it wouldn't go forward after leaving a parking lot. We'd had some issues with it for about 6 months before it stopped all together, like it had difficulty gettin going when it was cold but after it warmed up it'd shift smoothly. Took it to Mechanic (still has it in his lot) who replaced the Transmission. He says he put  new sensors in it and replaced the solenoids. He says it will shift normally in 4WD but when it's in 2WD it up-shifts on its own. It's an automatic transmission. He has all but given up on it, we've paid him in full a few grand, naturally any help would be appreciated.

Still no head way, we are taking it to another mechanic who has the diagnostic equipment for this brand of car. Really hoping to not be taken advantage of. I found out the mechanic who's had it since Nov 2013, doesn't even have the diagnostic equipment for my vehicle, therefore I don't see how he isn't just shooting in the dark, as far as the repairs go. If I find out the mechanic who currently has it did in fact take advantage of me, I intend to take him to court.
