my car does not read when hooked to the computer

yea my check engine light is on. and when i hook it to the computer it says unable to read

yes its a 2000. And i took it to two different places and neither one could get it to read. I also put it on the machine. Do u think it could be the plug in the car that the tool hooks up to?

Hello i have a 2004 Mitsubishi gallant and my car wont read when its hooked up to the computer and my check engine light is not on
