Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently my 2000 mitsubisi galant 2.4l jad the service engine soon light come on. After i got it checked out they
gave me the trouble code p0171 Rich fuel mixture. They said it could be a vacume leak, bad maf, misfire, bad o2
sensors. My mechanic said there was no leak, misfire and that the maf was fine, the only thing left were the o2
sensors so i replaced them both but the light wont go away. What could it be?

Code P0171 means the vehicle computer is showing the air fuel mixture is lean, either too much air, or not enough fuel. So, it is adding fuel to try and correct it. There are many things that can cause this code and some of them can be difficult to diagnose and expensive to repair. However, sometimes it can be a simply problem, with a simple repair. If your a do-it-yourselfer, try this first. It's a common problem and you might just be able to save yourself some money. Check your PVC valve connection for a broken or leaky hose. Vacuum leaks are a pain to find, but look in the obvious places first. Good luck

Thanks. I checkthe hose and replaced the pcv valve but it still wont go away. Now it gives me p0100 and p0170. Its not the p171 any more.
