2001 mistubishi eclipse

I have a 01 eclipse that shifts into 1st 2nd &. 3rd
fine but wont stay in 4th , i have to shift straight to
5th what could be the problem

Either a shift sylonoid or u fried the tranny smell the fluid and if it smells burns then u need a new tranny
