Do i really need an emergency parking brake
on my 89 olds?
And if not can i disconnect it completely
from the brakes itself?

I agree. Just taking it off because it never gets used is indeed a stupid idea as it is a pointless thing to do and will indeed affect resale value on a newer car. On his car it won't make any difference because its too old to have a meaningful resale value.
