why does my car have a bad idle/ wont accelerate

my broke down about 4 months ago due to a timing belt slipping so i had the
top end done because i bent some valves so i got that all done put a new
timing belt on and but it back together but now itll struggle to start and once it
does run it is rough and back fires and struggles to get going what is causing
this problem

check plug wires/plugs/fuel filter/pressure...

Check engine ignition timing, compression and I wonder if the mechanic installed the timing belt one tooth off.

The timing marks were not lined up correctly just a tooth off installing the belt can cause your problem.
