how much work is it to get rid of a straight pipe?

Asked by galant03 Aug 30, 2016 at 11:31 AM about the 2003 Mitsubishi Galant GTZ

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm puchasing a 2003 Galant in a couple of days. It has a straight pipe
exhaust. I DO NOT like the sound of it.. it's almost embarrassing.. Is it a big
job.. costly job to have a regular exhaust re installed?

No, most muffler shops will knock it out in no time. Won't be super cheap but not super expensive either, at least labor-wise. It's the parts prices that'll kill you. Can you fit mufflers and a crossover on the existing pipes?

If there is room you may be able to just get a muffler installed. KenF is correct, take it to a muffler shop. An un-muffled V-6 would sure sound awful.

KenF I know very little about cars. I know the basics but I don't know what you mean regarding ability to for mufflers and a crossover on the existing pipe. The more I think about this vehicle the more I'm beginning to cringe and wonder if I'm going to do ok with it. This is my first vehicle so time will tell! Muffler shop it is . hoping they don't require my arm and legs as payments lol thanks to you both.

Also wondering.. Would either of you happen to know the names of the parts. Perhaps I could call a few places to price the parts before hand. Thanks
