can a v6 and a four cylinder use the same transmission?

Dont think you can cause trans for the V6 is probably bigger and handles more power then a trans for a 4 cylinder which would be smaller

Depends on how strong the transmission is. Its usually torque that destroys transmissions not really horsepower. A transmission of an Evo for example can handle torque in excess of 450lb which is a torque of a V8; however, it also depends on how the driver deals with his transmission. Bad use can destroy a robust transmission even with engines with low torque.. The difference in engines as per ur question might compromise the drivability of the car rather than the transmission. For example, a V6 is more powerful than the 4cyl, which allows the gearing ratio to be long (you won't shift to get the most out of the car's power); whereas in a 4cyl engine, you'll find it a bit harder to get the car going as you'll have to work the engine harder to match the gearbox's long ratio.
