I would use an Edelbrock Performer intake and square bore carburetor. They are 50 State Legal. You will likely find an improvement in performance, gas mileage, and driveability. The other thing that wakes up these engines nicely is to go to a dual exhaust after the cats. Go with two and a quarter dual with H cross over, with Dynaflow Mufflers. It Will sound almost quiet as stock, but a slightly richer tone. You will gain about 20 hp and 5 mpg with the exhaust alone. With the Edelbrock intake and carb, you will gain another 10-15 hp, and a few extra miles to the gallon. Tuned right, you could even get over 30 miles to the gallon with the overdrive automatic.
