Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 2004 Endeavor and this problem has just started to occur the past few
months. Wife was complaining the steering was going out when going through rain
puddles. Yep, it sure was! Had the belt replaced. Next thing I know it is doing the same
thing! So I take it back to check the belt and it was tight as could be. At a loss now on
what is happening.

I checked several parts manuals in reference to a splash guard for the power steering pump exclusively. You are not the only person suggesting the very same thing. The pump is in a bad place on the engine and very hard to access on the passenger side between the motor and the cab. What a nightmare for us shade tree mechanics. Anyway a splash shield was never made to my limited knowledge. After tightening the belt to the point of thinking I could ruin the bearings it has not failed since after our 20" month of rain. I am still very skeptical it will last and we are playing Russian roulette with the darn thing. Maybe making a homemade guard? What has anyone else done that has this problem? Thank you Js08016!
