2002 mini cooper ignition problems

Asked by lmandrei Jan 27, 2014 at 08:33 PM about the 2002 MINI Cooper Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i'll be brief.
this is basically what happens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ta5AyX6EMs
everybody's telling me that it's a battery problem.
the thing is after it does that, after 5-10 minutes of trying it starts again.
so i'm thinking that if the battery were dead, shouldn't the care be dead also?

my i should mention that this problem occured after the temperature dropped and the
first snow of the year hit.
thank you

i checked exactly when it was causing problems, they were on tight so i left them as i found them. after a few more tries, the car just started.

Take them off, clean them, and re-install them. Tight doesn't mean clean. I've come across many battery terminals that were tight, but the engine wouldn't crank until you cleaned them.

When you insert the key in the ignition does it ding? See if it dings when it won't start and let us know.
