can i fit 16' tires on a 1998 taurus?

I had a 2002 taurus and then the engine blew so i got a 1998 taurus and i was  
wondering if i could put the 16' tires on the 1998 even tho it has 15' stock
tires.

As long as the wheels have the same lug pattern and the circumference of the tires is close to what the 15" ones are.
