have a 1995 mercury tracer and the transmission will not shift into overdrive when its cold.

The Trans fluid gets thicker when its cold and thus making it harder for the bearings in the inside to move if its the OEM tranny i would recommend having it checked out probably needs to be replaced. Or it could be a selinoid
