keyless entry and start question

Asked by Guru9YT3WR Jan 29, 2021 at 10:42 AM about the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox 1.5T LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 2019 Equinox comes with a remote keyless entry and
remote start.  According to my manual, this option will work up
to 197 feet radius.  My daughter had the same thing on her car
and with her keys hanging in her house, someone was able to
get in the car and start it and steal the car.  I think 197 foot
radius is a bit too far.

I would like to reprogram my key fob down to about a 6 foot
radius operation.  How do I do that?

Unfortunately there are high tech car thieves out there now. They use a laptop to mimic the signal from your remote key fob. The vehicle recognizes the fake signal, unlocks, allows the engine to be started, and the thief drives away! You might be able to have your local Chevrolet Dealer remove the key fob feature from the computer to prevent this from happening again. You'll need to discuss that with them. Hope that helps! Jim
