phone continues to ring
Asked by GypsyDanger09 Feb 13, 2019 at 10:01 AM about the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox 2.0T LT AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
when a call is received via the cars Bluetooth system and you push the answer key on the car's display the display shows connected however the ringer continues to ring as if you didn't answer and you can not speak to the caller via the car's microphone system. when the call disconnects the ringer in the car continues and the only way I have found to turn it off is to switch the car off and exit the vehicle for a few minutes then restart or just turn the volume on the dash all the way down. side note: no other functions will work on the infotainment system while the ringer is ringing--attempted to switch channels on the radio including frequency. I have an Samsung galaxy s9 and notice this issue after the last software update to the phone however I have even powered down my phone during this ringing and it continues.

Omg mine is doing the exact same thing! I just posted this exact post last night and I also have an s9 and it started after the last update. I have noticed, if you decline the call, the ringing stops, but if you answer it.... it's over. So glad it's not just me
I have also reset everything to factory settings on the car, tried answering it with android auto hooked up. The ringer still goes off, but you can listen to the music. I have tried shutting the phone off and restarting it as well. I kind of want to get someone else's phone and hook it up and see if it still does it. The fact that we both have the same phone and it started after the update makes me think it's something with the phone update. I'll let you know what happens after connecting someone else's phone.
It worked perfect with a different phone. Just like it did prior to the s9 update

thank you for answering. since the car is still under warranty I am going to contact my dealership and take it in for service--I have done everything (unpairing/repairing/resetting the infotainment system to factory settings/deleting cache from Bluetooth storage/turn phone off and back on). michelle--if I get the issue fixed I will post what steps I took and hopefully it'll help you too.
Exact same issue, same phone Galaxy s9 & 2019 equinox. Any updates?
GypsyDanger09 answered 5 years ago
none yet, however I will be taking the car in to the service department tomorrow. my hunch is that its a software issue with the phone and nothing to do with the car because Michelle commented that she paired a different phone and the infotainment system worked as it should. I am going to call my cell carrier today and see if they direct me to Samsung customer service/tech support. if anyone has a fix please post it on this thread
Clearly not a car issue and more so an issue with s9 update. Having same issue as well 2019 silverado
Yep. Worked fine with other phones. But if I reject the call, the ringing stops and I can call back with no issues. Also, someone said if they have the phone hooked up to android auto and they get a phone call, if they hit the Google mic button after it stops the ringing. I haven't tried that, just something to consider.
No ot a vehicle bbn issue. Both GMC and onstar siding started after the latest android in update. I called Samsung and she couldn't find no it is blamed the vehicle. Samsung needs to fix this!
I'm having the same issue! With the Samsung S9 as well.. I figured out that by pressing the voice command button on the steering wheel is the only thing that gets the ringing to stop. Hope that helps in the meantime until the situation is fixed, instead having to pull over and turn off the car
Mines is doing the same thing after the update as well.
same issue 2019 chevy equinox my car is in the shop right now as we speak, i have a samsung galaxy s9 as well. Fingers crossed it gets fixed.

I just bought a 2019 Equinox yesterday. Received my first call on my S9+ running Android 9 (Pie). It did this very thing... So annoying. I immediately blamed the new car. I was able to reproduce it again by having my wife call me again. I tried unpairing my phone, then pairing her S7. Calling her phone worked fine... Several times. Reluctantly, I factory reset my phone S9+, then swapped the pairing. Incoming calls work fine now. Time will tell, but it seems it had to be the phone.
Uuggg I am having the same issues. Ever since the update, I was going to the dealership tomorrow. I am going to try and get Samsung to reverse the most recent update.

I found on another thread where someone posted that a GM rep helped them find a work around. I gave it a try, and so far so good..... If installed, uninstall Android Auto from your phone. Delete the Bluetooth car connection from the phone, and the phone from the car. On the phone, under 'Advanced' settings for Bluetooth, disable 'Ringtone Sync'. Re-pair the phone/car Reinstall Android Auto, if wanted. I'm not sure what role Android Auto plays in this, if any. I believe it's an issue with Samsung's software for Ringtone Sync, but, I followed the instructions. I've had no less than a couple dozen incoming calls answered without issue. Hope this helps you. BTW, for what it's worth, I contacted Samsung tech support to pass this info along. They were less than interested. Their response... 'So, it's working now? All good then'. They assured that it would be addressed by the next update. I asked if they wanted software version info from the car radio and my phone. Their response... 'No, I don't think that will be necessary'. They instilled the utmost confidence, LOL.
Woohoo!!! So awesome it worked , do what Cheapskate2 said , it works!!! Thank you!!
I just bought a 2019 Equinox and its doing the same thing with my Samsung 9 Note.

I have the same car and the same phone and it's doing the exact same thing I just came on here to find out if anybody else was having a problem. Evidently a lot of people are.
Same issue with me S9 and 2019 Equinox. Had the Samsung rep working on it with me in my car and the best they could come up with is don't answer the car and then call them back on your phone. He says the s9 and s10 have the same operating system so don't go to the S10 it won't work either. We tried it with an S8 no problems at all.

Hi we uploaded a "How To" video that will help you fix this issue. https://youtu.be/60vFyrTcm9o
A quick fix as I just found this thread. I pressed the on star and hung up and it worked.
I just experienced the unstoppable ringing in my 2015 GMC Acadia and I have a Samsung S5. I will look forward to trying the fix as above. Thx for the post of the fix in advance.
Let car sit turned off for 10 min. Was fine but it was my husband's phone. I have a Samsung and no problems with it.

My 2010 terrain started this last night when one call ended and someone else was calling me. I could take the call in my Bluetooth earpiece, but the phone kept ringing and showed "unknown call." I tried shutting off Bluetooth on the phone, shutting off the power button on the radio, using the steering wheel controls to shut it off. I got home shut the car off. I had to make several trips to the car to bring things in to the house, it kept ringing, with vehicle off, phone off, keys removed from vehicle. After I brought everything in, I tried again with phone controls on steering wheel and radio controls. I finally shut the car up and went inside. I checked when I took my dog out about 1 1/2 hours later, still ringing. I checked on it at 8 am, still ringing. I started the car, mostly to make sure the battery wasn't dying. I tried the same thing. It was 130 pm when I read this post and tried Johnnyoh75's fix, although I didn't have Android auto. The fix worked. Thanks very much, because I was about to have to sit in the car at -5 degrees and start looking for the right fuse to pull.
