2005 Hyundai Santa Fe Engine Smell in Cabin

Asked by Smilinpch Jul 19, 2019 at 01:07 PM about the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L GL FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Hyundai Santa Fe is only used on occasion for dirty errands.  There has been an engine fume smell in the cabin for some time.  It is strong when sitting for some time and not running, as well as when I am driving it. I smell it when I open the door.  When I use it, running the AC seems to help.  I also open the windows. Is there a seal between the cabin and the engine space that may be bad? If so, is it difficult and expensive to fix?

It could be oil, transmission fluid, coolant or fuel that is leaking. Have a mechanic look it over and find out where the smell is coming from and fix.
