My 2002 cougar will start and shift , but will not move . I want to fix my car but do not know what I have to fix , any suggestions?

Check for obvious first like parking brake, throw car in neutral and see if u can push car to make sure it's not locked up. If it still doesn't move, check transmission fluid level, if ok, u got transmission issues, possible dirty filter
