Our 2003 Mercury Sable with 63,000 miles just stop accelerating & shifting gear has no light

Asked by Milytox May 14, 2013 at 06:04 PM about the 2003 Mercury Sable LS Premium Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our 2003 Mercury Sable. after stopping on a stop light, when it's time to go on green, it
wouldn't accelerate,..we had to put it on neutral to steer away from traffic.  One mechanic
is saying it's needs transmission overhaul.  Is it the only possible diagnostic? We have
well maintained the car to it's mileage recommendation up to 60, 000, or about 6 months
ago...Any other possible diagnostic?

If the fluid is in good condition, and has the correct level then most likely its a internal issue. It can be hook to a scan tool and do certain checks but most places do not want to take the time to really break it all down and diagnose it, it can be very time consuming. so most places you go will tell you that you need a whole unit which very well could be the case.
