I have A mercury sable ls dohc my battery light is on how do I gt it to go off any help

Check the voltage at the battery engine running with a DC voltmeter. The voltage should be between 13.5 and 14.7 volts. If it is low in the 12s then the alternator or alternator wiring may be the problem. Also check the serpentine belt and make sure it has not come off the pulley.
