Shifter wont come out of reverse

While driving  it home it stared popping out of fifth so i down shifted  to  
fourth gear and drove it home parked it in the  driveway. A couple  hours
later i went  to leave i put it in reverse  backed out of driveway  pushed in
the clutch to shift into 1st  gear and the shifter will not come out of
reverse. Can this  be fixed. And if so how

First thing I would do is check the fluid level in the transmission.
