98 Ford Expedition - Intermittent Heat - Head Gasket?

Asked by scraigwoody Mar 14, 2016 at 06:55 PM about the 1998 Ford Expedition 4 Dr XLT 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Expy started having intermittent issues with temperature gauge
sometimes showing cold when I knew the engine was warmed up (and no
heat).  I thought it was a bad thermostat and took it to the shop.  They ran a
test (gasses in the cooling system or something) and said 100% that it's a
head gasket.  Does that sound right?

Did the do a compression test? Do u have milky colored oil indicating anti-freeze in oil, or oil in or radiator? These indicate blown gasket. Also sounds like additional issues?
