Check the wiring, power and ground, hopefully it’s not the whole unit that went bad.

On any vehicle like that, if it's just tail lights & backup lights, I'd first suspect a blown fuse, then a loose wire harness. If it involves brake lights & turn signals, look for a rotted ground or defective tail light assembly.
