Look at the window sticker that came with the car. If a block heater is not listed as an option you do not have one.

2018 and 2019 Camry does not come with engine block heater, nor do they have the option of adding it at your cost. Most Toyota dealers I checked all gave the same answer, claiming the Camry does not need block heater to start in extremely cold weather. If you do need one, buy it and install it your self....Google can help you with that!

Just had Toyota dealer install a block heater on a 2019 camry - Nov 6, 2019. Up until last week, they did not have them available. $355cdn parts and labour before taxes. Back in May, sales guy said not to worry about the lack of a block heater - Toyota tested cars in Churchill, Manitoba in the winter and they started okay. I said even with 0w16 oil, top of the engine still not lubricated as well as the bottom on startup. He cringed and then denied engine damage would pccur.

New block heater for 2019 Camry installed last Wednesday only draws 200 watts, using killawatt meter. Dealer said it was rated for 200. Seems like very low wattage. Maybe something to do with Toyota block heater recall in 2017? Will be doubling up the runtime from 3 to 4 hours. -10c to -20c, 6 hours. -20c to -30c, 8 hours. Below -30c, 10 hours.

My question is should you put them in your car as it gets older? I have 2014 Camry with 120000 miles.

Only install one if you need it. If it starts without trouble in cold weather you don't need one.

Waited 2 full years after 2018 Camry purchase for Toyota to design a block heater for the unit. TOTAL GARBAGE for Toyota or anyone else stating a block heater is not required if the vehicle starts . ALL vehicles will start without a block heater . Maybe everyone has $$$$ trees in their yards but I want longevity of my purchases including proper care and maintenance of vehicles purchased.

Ed, cold engine starts are tough on engines. Oil thickens in cold temps and does not flow as readily. at -30F as it does at 70F. Cold started engines suffer from more engine wear than a warm engine..As canmore says, longevity is the key. And not all Toyotas start at -30F. Let them sit, unstarted for a few days. Besides, cold friction requires a lot more energy to turn over an engine and thicker oil adds to the problem.

Seems we disagree. I will take my practical experience in -30 to -40f temps and continue to advocate for engine block heaters. Cold friction starts wear engines much faster than you state.

-38 first time my 2019 Camry doesn't start! All lights come on but engine will not start. No block heater in mine.
