Vehicle only has 20,000 miles on it and has already had an O2 sensor go bad and get replaced as well.

The car has been to the dealer more times than I have finger and toes and they say it’s designed to slip and refuse to do anything with it.. The Terrain is junk!

Our 2018 Terrain has 6000 miles on it and the transmission has slipped over a dozen times. It usually happens after we have backed up a slight incline. Of course it doesn't happen at the dealership so they haven't done anything about it. Thank goodness we leased it. Can't wait to get rid of it.

I have a 2018 GMC Terrain and after experiencing shifting issues and a unexplained sound the service department saw that my transmission was never bolted to the frame! I cannot make this up folks!

I have a 2018 terrain… This will be the fourth time into the dealer I have videos and pictures of the car shuddering and stalling. All the electrical systems including the radio and all the warning lights keep coming on....I have recorded five separate times in the past month because they asked me to keep track after the last time. In addition my first problems were with the acceleration where it kept slowing the car down. The dealership says it can’t find anything wrong with it despite the fact I have videos where all of these problems are occurring. In addition even while driving when this happens the RPM gauge will not work. And OnStar keeps sending me messages saying the system needs to be checked. Still the dealership cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle to fix. Bringing it in again this morning… We’ll see what happens

I have had the same issues. My car is at the dealership for the second time, and they “can not duplicate” the problem so they won’t do anything. I don’t know what to do! Has anyone had any luck?

I have had the same issue since I brought mine home - I keep bringing it to the dealer and they tell me they can not find anything wrong with it. They drive it and no issues supposedly. OnStar is all green lights. It happens when I come out of reverse. I have 5,200 miles less than a year old. Junk.

I bought a brand new 2018 terrain in May and within a week I had it towed back to the dealership after it was slipping and not accelerating. It would also randomly slow down, at a rapid pace without my applying the brakes when it should have been coasting. I took it back and forth to the dealership 4 times. They kept telling me they couldn’t duplicate the problem. The last time it happened was when I was trying to accelerate to change lanes on a major highway and it wouldn’t speed up, almost causing me an accident. I took it back and refused to take it back. The dealership kept the car for about a month, and were finally ably to duplicate it. The transmission temperature was found to be be getting excessively hot, causing it to malfunction. I refused to take it back at their offer to put in a new transmission, as the car was a month old. I contacted corporate gmc and they allowed me to do a buy back/trade sort of deal, where I basically picked out a different vehicle. Went with a Buick Encore and love it. It was a fight, and a process, but there is definitely some major safety concerns with the terrain. Don’t give up.

I Purchased a 2018 to terrain in June and it is back at the dealership for the third time. Starting in early August with problems where it would not shift out of low gear the - TSM switch was replaced, I picked up the car August 28 and had it home for about four hours before they had to take it back to the dealership - it wouldn’t go in reverse . After being at the dealership for three weeks a GM engineer was brought in and found another connection problem under the dash area above the radio. After that everything seem to be OK for a few months until two weeks ago after coming to a stop at a stop sign the car went into park and gave a transmission lock symbol , And it is back at the dealership, this time saying it’s a bad transmission shift switch . Also when you the heat mode (eg from the windshield to your feet, or any other change ) The system groans. I was told that it was a housing issue where the components were just a little bit too big and they rub inside of the housing- GMC is aware of this problem since August but has not come up with a solution

I’d contact General Motors and have them be in contact with the dealership that you purchased it from. I also got into contact with the district manager of General Motors in my area and he was working directly with me and the dealership. Keep documents of everything. The issue was found in mine when they took it for a test drive and had it hooked up to something that monitors the transmission as it shifts and the temperature, amongst other things I’m sure. I was told it was 3 different things, valves that needs to be replaced, systems that were reset, none of these things resolved the issue. The entire transmission needed to be replaced.

I also have a 2018 gmc terrain with 6000 miles on it and also it has already been many times to the dealer ship transmission slips it has a weared rattleling noise in the transmission when you turn it off the dealerships says its normal about two weeks ago as we were on the highway going 60 miles an hour suddently the vehicle from going 60 the speed went down to 33 miles an hour and it would go over that it started shaking and went straight to the dealership the service manager saw everything as he drove with me but after a day they said that they made a software update to the transmission and since it wasn't doing it any more they couldn't do more but could not guarantee it wont do it again this past weekend while we were on stop on a traffic light after turning green and released the brake it would advance and it accelerated by itself a and made a bad kick im guessing in the transmission an made a bad jum or acceleration and started sliping again

Same as you guys. I have a 2018 Terrain. At about 5k miles I had the same problem with transmission feeling like it was slipping. RPMs would go way up when I let off the gas and slow the vehicle down considerably. Dealership could not duplicate it first time I brought it in. They told me it “Was probably a new safety feature I’m not used to”. 2nd time it happened my boyfriend was driving, took it to dealership right away and the mechanic drove the truck and felt the problem. He said “That’s weird. But it’s not throwing any codes”. Had another appointment to bring it back in and decided not to drop my car off if they already told me they weren’t going to be able to find anything. Today I drove a ways out of town to the middle of nowhere and ended up going up and down steep roads. I used the downhill assisted, turned it off, and the car is still acting like it’s in downhill mode and that’s what I’ve been feeling all along. Super not cool I have to drive home wondering if I’m going to make it. I’m calling tomorrow and telling them they better do something to fix this.

I’d highly suggest to all having this issue with the terrain to INSIST that they hook the vehicle up to a monitor that shows the shifting of the vehicle through the gears, but more importantly monitors the TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE. I was finally told that was the reason that for the irratic shifting and lack there of, and why the vehicle was slowing itself down at a rapid pace. The transmission temperature was getting way too hot.

This vehicle is a safety hazard and major waste of money and time. Anyone having an issue with it should contact corporate GM and document an official complaint. Maybe if enough people complain, they will at least try to do something about it. Maybe.

I have a 2019 GMC Terrain Denali, six months old, about 5500 miles. Yesterday starting having what felt like slippage in the transmission when we stopped or took off. Today the slippage got worse, starting making a groaning sound. Was on the road returning home from vacation. Tried to make it to dealership but the transmission completely stopped working Had to have it towed in Could not even get it to go into neutral.

Update to 2019 GMC Terrain Denali issue with transmission. Dealership says the planetary gear and some other parts have gone bad. Parts are being ordered and car should be ready for pickup in about 5 days. Not a happy camper with this car having major transmission issues at just 5500 miles

Purchased a new 2018 GMC Terrain (4cyl) in December 2018. Car has 7K miles on it and transmission issues. We were told at dealer that a transmission software recall would fix the problem. After the transmission software recall was fixed, the problems with the transmission have still continued. Many times, there will be a major RPM drop when changing gears around 2nd and 3rd gear, and we have felt it slip around 5th-6th gear. Also, a rattling noise under the drivers side, and odd gear noises heard. Naturally, GMC says there is nothing in the computer codes showing a problem so I guess we are all making it up, right?

I know that there was a recent service call for the Terrain. I got something in the mail for it. Shortly after I took in my 2019 Terrain for that call, along with a couple other problems. The service call was to reset the transmission in order to prevent any slippage with the auto start and neutral gear. My car fortunately never had that issue before the fix. However, it was experiencing issues with coming off the park and into drive. Dealer told me it was me and I either wasn't fully breaking or somehow managed to hit the e-break park button, neither of which are the case. Since the reset about 3 weeks ago my car has now developed issues with the RPMs. It does this thing were I'm just coasting, foot resting but no pressure to the gas, and it revs from its normal rest of 1.5-2 to 4.5-5 RPMs, for no reason. My cruse is not set either and I struggle to get it to go down. Took it back in the other day and the dealer called saying they couldn't get it to act up either. Its a lease, but I'm stuck in it for another 2.5 years. I cannot wait to give it up.

My 2018 terrain has slipped gears at least 14 times and I have had it one year It started very early like at 2000 miles. I have had to recalls on it already. It seems to act up the most coming out of reverse. This new recall with transmission isn’t what my car is doing. I am hoping this computer reset on the transmission corrects my issues. All I can explain is I’m driving a manual and going 40 in 2nd gear. It just won’t shift. I have to pull over turn off car and let it sit to make it stop. I leased this and can’t wait to get rid of it. Very unreliable car and don’t get me started on the auto stop start feature !

I own a 2019 Terrain. I love it. Today I was almost to San Antonio from Shreveport when (on the highway doing 70) the check engine light came on. Then a warning alert *** Slowing Engine Down*** what....why.... I saw the traffic slowing down ahead. So I got in the slowest lane. I turned the car off and back on. It sounds like air ....no reving. I got off the highway and went to a parking lot. Again, cut the car off and sat there for a minute. Turned it back on and I died. The RPM’s weren’t high enough to stay running. I had to quickly put it in drive for it to stay running. It does this jumping while trying to go. The RPM’s once again will not stay high enough. I have never gone through this before! Kinda worried that I’m not going to make it back to Shreveport. Oh I can’t put it in cruse. It locks me out of cruse. I could be doing 45 mph and once it tries to go faster, cruse kicks off.

It's now been over six weeks since my transmission failed while on vacation. My car is still sitting in Bossier City, La waiting on parts. No one at GM can tell me when parts will be available. Can't even get a new replacement transmission.

I just took my 2018 terrain in for the 3rd time. First time I took it in, my car sat in parking lot for week and the loaner car was doing the same as my car, rough shifting, kicking back hard. So I thought this is the way it was suppose to be, so I picked up my car. The second time, they reset the transmission, but was still doing it, not as bad. Now, i took my car in for oil change and they spotted a leak on transmission cover. Mind you this has been happening ever since i got the car a year ago. In my garage are stains. So, I went to GM of the dealership and said I want this fixed this time. We will see.

Had a 2018 Terrain I got in July 2018. In October 2000 miles transmission went out. Dealer had car in out for six weeks. I went from service writer to part owner of dealership. I opened a file with GM after sitting him down with a file full of service slips he after long deliberation gave me a 2019 terrain. It raised my lease payment $25 but well worth it. No problems almost a year later. Hope it lasts.

I have a 2019 GMC terrain sle. Ever since the day I bought it it has been terrible. I noticed a terrible rattling noise when the vehicle would go over any bumps or small inclines. Took it to the dealership that I leased it from. For them to have it for a month to tell me it's a manufacturing defect and my vehicle is one of three with this known issue with the frame and they will not be able to fix it and can't tell me when or if it will ever be fixed. The dealer attempted to fix it anyways and completely trashed the interior of my cars causing damage to trim peices, dents and scratches. I am still dealing with that issue along with transmission issues now mostly the car going out of second gear rpms jump and it slams very rough into the next gear. The dealership doesn't want anything to do with it anymore and GM wouldn't replace or trade in the car. So I am unfortunately stuck with this peice of junk for 2 more years.

Same thing with me I even went through the BBB process but it seems that GM is pretty well protected I have had many problems with my 2018 terrain ever since day one and pretty much they told me I had to leave with it

Do everyone here a favore and File all of these safety complaints with the NHTSB. Call them and they will take your report over the phone, like they did for us. They are the ultimate authority to enact/enforce a recall if manufacturers dont. The more reports filed about the same safety issues, the more likely something will be done about it.

These car Mfg's are adding WAY tooooo much electronic junk to these cars. Everything is a BUTTON to push or pull meaning we depend on a Computer to run the car. my 2019 Terrain has only 13000 and has just started to give tranny problems the day after it came back from the dealer scheduled service (OH YEAH) It had several Recalls + they so called updated my computer software. If the computer gets wet or isn't properly grounded - you're Screwed - Also we are All connected to the internet - (oh and by the the way this RADIO SUCKS very poor reception) - which means you could have been Hacked - VIRUS, I will call it COVIDIUS GMC Try to rember your Dealer isnt trying to screw you its just that educated Mechanics are very hard to Find most of these grease monkeys Just LIKE Doctors today don't really Know what to do they just read the answer on what might be the problem off a computer!!!!! Good luck Folks next time Buy any thing other than _ _ _.

Sweet Jesus I wish I had read all of this before getting my used 2013 terrain. I got it March 7th and it was in the shop by 31st! Transmission problems! They said it was 2 bad engine mounts, 2 bad transmission mounts and the torque converter is shot! They replaced the torque converter and mounts now the car groans when moving forward groans over bumps and uneven ground and is now slipping at first and second gear. Hard down shifting after 55 mph. They're trying to give me the runaround but I am not the one to play with! It was at a GMC dealer yesterday, they said the transmission is doing what it's supposed to do. Which I'm assuming means screw up! I am still in a loner car. I will be demanding a buyback!! This is ridiculous!! I have not even made my first car payment yet. My truck was in the shop for 12 days the 1st time. This time will be 5 days. But I do like the rental LMAO 2020 Chevy Blazer! I wish I could keep it

Had a 2019 Terrain, while traveling to FL transmission went out. Had 5000 miles on it. 2 weeks later I get it back, with a new transmission. I am still in Florida. 1 month later I was driving home, car did the same thing. Transmission again. I rented a car and came home. Dealership had my car for 79 days. They finally delivered that pos to me in Indiana, but by then I was done with it. Two new transmissions within 8000 miles. I called a lemon law attorney. I won
