trading in a car not registered to me

if i took over the payments of a friends car can i trade it in as long as she is with
me to sign off on the car

As long as the person in whose name the car is titled signs the title, and not under duress, legally it doesn't matter what you do. And I don't think the buyer would care either. This is done done often by people who care for invalids and elderly people.
