Waht would be the effect of putting 5 qts of oil in 1.6 liter eng. instead of the recommended 4.7 qts?

Probably nothing, the excess oil may burn off. I personally would drain some of it if your specs say it need 4.7, thats me being OCD. But you should be fine.

The reason that U should never put more oil in than required is that you can seriously damage an engine if the oil level is too high it will slam your pistons when the piston is all the way down. Most of the time your probably ok ... in your case less than a pint shouldn't do damage

Thank you. That is about what I thought. Smoky Yunick used to recommend a little over full on oil but that was l-o-n-g time ago. Never sounded like good idea to do it on purpose though.
