Temperature resistance of metal hose in cooling system

Question type: General

Hi.
There is a metal hose in the car's cooling system. It is located close to
the engine and it is connected to other four rubber hoses.(see attached photo). This metal hose is originally coated with a black color paint.I would like to know what is the maximum temperature that this black coated paint can resist? Thanks.

It can handle any heat that is associated with the engine and cooling system. Is yours leaking? Might have failed due to age and rust. For a 32 year old part, it is due to be replaced.

Thank,VRoom, for your response. My issue is not necessary related to leakage. I am trying to find out,if the coating paint can handle continuous temp. of at least 200°C? I assume that it can handle 126°C(boiling temp. of coolant), but i am not sure how high the temp. can get around this part. Does the air temp.around this hose reach 200°C or more? Thanks.

That metal tube is just part of the cooling system hoses; it's hard because it has to maintain a specific routing, and a flex-hose won't do that. The hottest engine compartments I've seen are on the European cars that we race: Porsche, Audi, Ferrari, Aston-Martin. They have special cooling tunnels, but still can reach near 150 F. There are no cars that reach temperatures near what you are concerned about. The subject tube will endure any operating heat the car can throw at it..... If you're concerned about what type of paint to use to repaint the tube, just use any automotive heat resistant paints that are designed for exhaust systems. Car parts stores carry them and they are available in myriad colors.

Thanks for your answer,Ed. Yes,my intention is to paint the metal hose, but only on a few spots in the metal hose where the paint peeled-off,while i will leave the rest of the original paint as it is,since it is a new part(i have just bought it)and the paint is good and rigid(besides the peeling spots). I have already bought a paint for high temp. for this task, but since i need to put the metal hose(after painting)in the oven at 200°C,i am trying to find-out if the original paint can resist to this temp. Does it resist to the 200°C?

Heat the pipe to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to check the stability of existing coating. If it succeeds, and I'm sure it will, proceed with your planned patch-paint. Or if you want to do the job right, sand the entire pipe and hit it with primerless heat-resistant paint.

Thanks Ed. You advise to make a test(which i am trying to avoid,so i won't ruin the original paint if it will fail),but you also said that you are sure the coating will resist that temp.May you clarify this, please? All of my intention was to avoid any test that might ruin the original paint.

The effort you're putting into this makes it seem like you're preparing the Opel for the Concours at Pebble Beach. I've restored Corvettes and GTOs and never went into this detail over a radiator hose: kinda scary.

Hi Ed. I have, practically, done nothing yet and all my effort is only to get a simple but RELIABLE answer(followed with any reference),if the paint is resist to 200°C That's all.Nothing more. Read all the answers that i got and tell me if i got a definite answer. I got several answers and i appreciate any response(it's not taken for granted),but did i get a definite answer?

Okay, many thanks for all the responses, though i still don't know if the paint will resist, for sure, the 200°C. I assume that no one in this forum is expert in this area. Thanks anyway.
