do you have to replace retaining clips on CV axle on 1999 Ranger?

I just read were a ford repair man said they do not replace them;

The snap ring on the hub? Yes, absolutely you do need them on. I saw what may have been the same thing where the supposed Ford mechanic said they do not replace them, the bearing is already secure. Well yeah the bearing is secure but without the snap ring and spacer the axle can pull out of the hub. Thanks now were do I go to get clips?with out buying the cv axle shaft
