Cranks good ,no start

Asked by shutterbug1 Jan 12, 2020 at 10:41 AM about the 1999 Ford Ranger XLT Extended Cab SB

I started my 98 ranger 6cyl 3.0 to warm up. After
about 10 min warmup I shut it off to lock my trailer
door. Got back in and tried to start. I think I held the  
key in start momentarily causs it sounded like the
starter was still engaged. Quickly turnsd thd ksy
off and now it wont start. Everything works fine but
it wont start. It sounded like it was firing
ocasionally so I kept cranking while giving it gas. It
finally caught and started fine. Turned it off and it
started fine. Any ideas?
