May buy 1994 Cherokee. Is I6 more reliable than V8?

Asked by PACKIN1 Aug 13, 2012 at 05:34 PM about the 1994 Jeep Cherokee SE 4-Door 4WD

Question type: General

I've heard the I6 is more reliable, but the used V8s seem to cost more. Wondering if history has proven one better than the other.

The I6 is dead reliable, cant go worng. If I was buying a GC Id go for a ZJ with a 5.2 V8, dead reliable and lots of go fast parts and offroad goodies available.

Where the Cherokee failed is the auto transmission. The I6 cant be killed tho. With a stick it's the best thing out there. The early Grand Cherokee's electronics always messed up. The computer would think you were a robber and shut down your car, not to mention the display that always tells you doors are open that arn't and bulbs are out that are working perfectly.
