Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1995 jeep cherokee sport with 166,000 plus miles and have replaced the water pump and heater control valves 3 times each, plus a new radiator once.  Is there a history of these problems with 95 cherokees?

New radiator is fine. 150k miles isn't a really long time for a radiator, but 15+ years? Radiators need to be replaced sometimes. I went through a few heater control valves myself. Some auto parts stores sell absolute crap. Make sure to get quality parts. If you are going through water pumps frequently, it could be that you are over-tightening the belt. This would cause undue stress on the main bearing of the pump. Cherokees have a tendency to have belt slippage, and people try to fix the problem by over-tightening the belt. Hope that helps.

Thanks Adam. I will check to see that the dealer didn't tighten the belt too much on my latest water pump. Kirk
