1996 jeep cherokee sport Driver door wont open

Asked by Brandi Mar 10, 2013 at 03:09 PM about the 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 2-Door RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have pulled the door panel it isnt locked, all of the parts seem to be working
correctly, im afraid its the actual claws that arent moving when we try to use the
door which is hard to fix or look at because it wont detatch from the pin to open the
door. How do i get this open without destroying it to fix the problem

If you have the door panel off, get plenty of light in there and look/study how the mechanism might function and try pulling or prying in such a manner to duplicate regular "claw" triggering movement.
