Why is my 1998 jeep Cherokee sport making a pop noise under my feet and hesitates and wants to stall when accelerating?

Asked by Amy Nov 12, 2015 at 03:02 AM about the 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport 2-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When accelerating, it hesitates and I feel and hear a popping back- firish
noise under my feet. If I "punch it" and floor it, it won't sputter.

I read somewhere to bang or tap the catalytic converter and if it rattles inside, it's the catalytic converter. How do I check or fix clogs?
