shifter will not come out of park

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

start car, press brake, fasten seat belt, press button shifter and the car will not come out of park. Break lights work not sure were to look for problem.

I had this problem on a 98 where it would not shift out until the engine warmed up. It is a shift linkage problem and costs about $500 at Ford

Make sure to check the 3rd Brake light / center brake light, just one side bulb (center light has 2) being burnt out will cause this. common problem!
