Question type: Car Customization

Hi I have a 1999 Mustang GT back in 2011 the
motor blew up in it me and my dad are in the
process of rebuilding the car from the ground up
for a full customization my question is what 4.6
Motors can I use in the car without having to do a
bunch of work to the computer wiring harnesses
fuel lines and all that what model year can I go up
to in a 4.6 I know I can only go to a 99 and up but I
don't know how far up I can go

almost any swap will entail a matching pcm, and the 4.6 is one of the worst engines ever made , oh when the multiple timing chains 4 or 5 whatever are in time and counter shafts rolling . variable timing [fords version] garbage , its a nightmare in disguise and a good one at that

Most of the 4.6 engines parts are interchangeable. Such as cylinder heads, intake manifolds etc. If you find a 4.6 that has the same sensors as yours uses you should be fine. The Mustang may use a different intake and oil pan, but those parts can be swapped to the new engine. If you were to go with a newer 3 valve engine or a DOHC engine then the computer and sensor problems begin. My suggestion would be do lot of "Googling" to learn the differences between the various Ford Modular engines. The are great engines if they are properly maintained.
