No start

Asked by Keith Jun 15, 2016 at 07:59 PM about the 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought an 01 jeep wrangler with a locked up
motor. I replaced the motor with one from an 01 zj,
using my intake, and exhaust.  Once installed it
would only start using gas in the intake,  so I
replaced the fuel pump, and it started, but the
intake was not seated on the pins at the bottom of
the intake,  so it was sucking air.  I removed the
intake, and reinstalled it properly. Now it will not
start at all. Its getting fuel, and fire from the coil.
Acts like it's out of time, but it's distributorless
ignition.

It’s not as easy as just using a Cherokee/grand Cherokee engine. From what I was told you can only use wrangler motors because there are a few things different between the 2 model engines! They do this so you can’t just change out engines from other models easily they want you to replace it and spend a lot of money for the correct engine at the dealer.

You’ll have to use the distributor in your new engine not the coil packs because the computer is programmed to run off a distributor not the coil pack!
