My 2002 jeep grand cherokee will start but you have to pump the gas real hard then it will stall and wont start. It made a backfire noise before this started what could be wrong.

if it is carbed the your float is stuck if it is FI there might not be adequate gas to the cylenders

You will have to have a pro check your fuel injection- and the ignition- just take it to a garage- you do have a good mechanic, don't you? If you get lucky, it might be something simple like a cold-start valve or a fuel pump relay-
