Why won't my truck go in reverse?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Brother passed away recently and left me his
truck because it meant a lot to him and I but I
haven't been in in in over 6 months and I picked it
up the other day and all of the fluids looked great
and it fired right up but will not go in reverse. Also I
never actually k ew this but the truck is AWD, I
honestly didn't even know that but when I got
home to raise it up and check the undercarriage I
noticed the 2 differentials and my stomach started
to turn because I started to think that maybe this
project is out of my budget and won't be able to do
anything with it. I'm sorry to ramble I guess my
question is, why won't it go in reverse?

It is probably time for a transmission rebuild.

I forgot to mention that it shifts through all the gears fine but the only one that wont engage is reverse.

Take it to a transmission shop for diagnosis.

On a lot of GMs when the transmission is failing, reverse is the first to go! Hope that helps! Jim
