Walmart employees put wrong transmission oil in my car?

Asked by Miroslava95 Nov 06, 2020 at 05:28 PM about the 2004 Jeep Liberty Sport 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I went yesterday in Walmart to change oil and air filter on my 2004 Jeep
liberty. They put PENN NM EB 5W20 SN oil. After leaving the store i couldn't
turn my steering wheel and my car overheat. My Idler pulley or tensioner got
melted which is causing overheating. Is it possible that because they put
wrong oil that my car broke and this part got melted? I have been calling
them but they told me that is not their fault. What should i do? Thanks to
everyone!

you obviously have a serpentine belt problem and a seized pully

5W20 oil is engine oil. Are you saying they put that in your transmission or engine? Engine oil has Zero to do with the idler wheel.

Yeah, engine oil. What do you suggest to do? Should i just change those parts or? How much is the estimate price for changing those? Thank you!

Obviously you need to fix the defective idler wheel. You can't drive it so this means a tow.

They also changed 5w 20 oil, and before i had 5w 30. When i check on manual book for my car there says that Jeep liberty 2004 only should get 5w 30 or eventually 5w10, and not 5w 20. D o you think they make big mistake getting that one? Should i go now back and ask them to change to 5w 30 which is usually what my car get? Thanks!
