the part time 4wheel drive light stays on all the time

Mine was doing the same thing until winter came and I needed to use the 4x4 then it stopped doing it.

I have the problem of getting the P/t in and out of gear. Sometimes it says the P/T is on but the handle pops out of gear. I am thinking I have a problem with the handle needs adjustment.

I have a 2006 Jeep liberty that the part time light stays on unless you engage the 4x4 then it goes out.what can I do ? And if it is the switch where's it located.thanks for your help
